Prime Resolution

Getting the Most Out of SEND Mediation

Practical guidance for local authority officers on approaching SEND mediation constructively, to maximise the opportunity for effective dispute resolution.

About This Course

This course is for local authority officers attending SEND mediations. It aims to support positive outcomes for both the local authority and the child or young person.

We provide practical guidance on how to approach mediation in the most constructive way, to maximise the opportunity for effective dispute resolution. We use case studies to explore potential solutions to a range of scenarios that occur at all stages of the EHCP appeals process, including those surrounding Section I.

The training often includes interactive exercises and can be tailored to the needs of the local authority. For example, we are often asked to include a refresher on certain aspects of relevant legislation, and to provide content that can help build officers' confidence in decision-making at mediation.

Student Feedback

We had been in dispute with the council for over a year. The mediator helped both sides actually listen. We reached agreement in one session.

Parent, West Midlands

I did not think mediation would work, but the mediator was so knowledgeable about the process. We got the provision our son needed.

Parent, London

Outstanding course content and delivery. The practical examples really helped me understand complex concepts.
